The Importance Of The International Solidarity
20.09.10 - 16:29
By Iyad Burant - As the Nonviolence Resistance in Palestine is growing, I believe the international solidarity is one of the most important components of our struggle against the occupation.
The presence of the international supporters in Palestine is very importance especially in the nonviolent protests like those in Bil’in, Nil’in, Al Ma’ssara, and Al Nabi Saleh villages; those supporters help in deescalating the violence used by the Israeli military during those weekly actions. They are also our ambassadors to the world, they transmit the full picture of what is happening here to their home countries though there presence and cameras.
We know that the Israeli occupation depend on three venues that makes it strong in facing international law and escape all the crimes it does against the unarmed Palestinian people;
First venue is the Military power:
This is the venue that we fight against by organizing nonviolent protests which thought out those activities, that involves participants from deferent countries, manage to disarm the Israeli military from its tools simply because its difficult to use military force to suppress nonviolent actions but it needs a great number of soldiers to counter those protests and that cost a lot.
The second venue is Media:
It’s simply the Israeli propaganda machine that is active in deferent parts of the world with a main objective that is to show people that Palestinians are the terrorists and murderers. But though nonviolent resistance, international media and foreign activists we can show what is really happing; the violence of the Israeli military and the false Israeli propaganda.
The third venue is the economy:
The reason behind the powerful Israeli economy comes from the support of the international governments and companies. Israeli products are spread all over the world; we can fight it by boycott campaigns against individuals and companies that support the occupation, like Liv Liviv from New York, AHVA in London, CRH in Ireland, we can also take it further more by legal prosecution, develop the boycott campaigns and expanding them constantly.
There are many examples of heroes and brave international supporters that stood for what is right with the Palestinian cause as if it’s their own. Some were killed many were injuries, in some occasions very critically, others were deported. All of this did not stop them from continuing their work for freedom justice and peace.
Here comes to mind the Irish supporter .T.D, 63 years old man , loved Palestine and fought for freedom and justice with his hart. In his town he works hard to send the message out. Every Saturday he march in the street carrying Palestinian flags and banners he hands out flayers the calls for the end of the Israeli occupation. In addition the man copies movies about Palestine and the reality the people live in and hands it out for free. Truly his is a believer in the just Palestinian cause.
I meet T.D in my village, Bil’in, a very brave and strong man armed with his camera he filmed the weekly protests; follow the Israeli soldiers during the night invasions into the village to arrest children and harass the residents. T.D was arrested in several occasions and even got injured will documenting.
He publish it all on the internet without delay, he is not a journalist rather than an active international supporter the believe in what he does and looks at it as a duty for every person in this world. To fight for freedom is the duty of ever free person in this world.
T.D came to Bil’in many times because he loved the resistance in it, he loved its people and became part of their community.
He was a very good friend of Bassem Abu Rahma, the young local activist killed by the Israeli military during the weekly protest last year. When he got the new about Bassem’s death he cried, till the day whenever he sees Bassem’s photos his eyes tiers because T.D is a loyal friend.
Even the children of Bil’in love T.D, whenever they see him they run to him, they nicknamed him(Seedi Tommy) Grandpa Tommy, he loves them he plays with them and give them chocolate; T.D loves to see them happy; something the occupation have taken from those children.
A serious man T.D, does not like to waste his times, always want to do more for Palestine, he goes during the day to cover protests, interview activists then upload his work to the internet at night.
T.D is just one example to many brave international friends we meet thought our nonviolence struggle. At the end we say with you and for you we continue to make peace, the just-peace that every free person in this world looks for. We refuse to die in silence.
