Praise be to Allah (The Glorified and Exalted).

Allah (The Glorified and Exalted) has provided the Greatest Advice to mankind by instructing them to submit, and say, “we hear, and we obey” [2:285]. Living at a time in which there is no prophet, it is easy for some individuals to be misled or question the faith and thereby fall out of the realm of Islam, due to their own ignorance. Therefore, Allah states the following, “O ye who believe! Ask not questions about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. But if ye ask about things when the Qur’an is being revealed, they will be made plain to you, Allah will forgive those: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Forbearing” [5:101]. How often do you see someone criticizing something that is sound, and his problem is that he cannot understand it properly. This is what happened to many among the Children of Israel when they lived during a period in which they had no prophet to lead them. They fell from their religion due to lack of knowledge and questioning of the Divine Laws, “Some people before you did ask such questions, and on that account lost their faith” [5:102]. If the Muslim has a pertinent question, then he should seek an answer from a trustworthy scholar, because they are well grounded in Islamic knowledge, “…And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: ‘We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord’: and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding” [3:7].

The purpose of this life is to test man in regards to whether he will rightly submit to Allah (The Exalted) or follow his own opinions and desires. What the Muslim needs to know is that Allah is the Creator of all that exists. He is the All-Wise and completely Just to His creation. It is His Right to tell the creation to do or believe whatever He Wills. Mankind and the jinn race are the slaves of Allah (The Exalted and Sublime), meaning they are under His Ownership and in servitude to Him. It is not correct for a slave to decide which part of the religion he wants to follow. The distinction between love for Allah that a Believer possesses, in contrast to an unbeliever, is the demonstration of obedience to the Divine Laws. The story of Adam (peace be upon him) serves as an ample warning to the rest of mankind. Adam (peace be upon him) was not initially removed from Heaven after committing polytheism, murder, or for not loving Allah, but rather he showed disobedience and violated a dietary restriction. Therefore, when Allah, the King of kings, Decrees a matter, it is not appropriate for someone with limited knowledge, to talk nonsense about a subject, which the Creator has already settled. The distinction of the Muslim should be the following, “…Allah has endeared the Faith to you [Muslims] and has beautified it in your hearts, and has made disbelief, wickedness, and disobedience (to Allah and His Messenger) hateful to you. These! They are the rightly guided ones” [49:7].

Allah has created man in a world of trials and tests, and He has made Paradise the abode of His friends and beloved ones. Those who preferred His Pleasure over their own and preferred obedience to Him over their own physical comfort and desires. The Believer must realize that he must endure sacrifices in this life, “Allah hath purchased of the Believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the Garden (of Paradise)…” [9:111]. In contrast, Allah has made Hell the abode of those among His slaves who disobey Him and preferred their own whims and desires to the pleasure of their Lord.

The Believers must realize that knowledge and conviction develop gradually. One must beseech Allah (The Exalted) for religious knowledge, “…say, ‘O my Lord! Advance me in knowledge’” [20:114]. The Believer must also ask of Allah (The Exalted) to renew the faith within his heart, to make him love the deen of Allah, and to make him happy and content with Islam. If the Believer falls short at times, he should never despair of the Mercy of Allah, “tell My servants that I am indeed the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful” [15:49]. One must realize that faith increases by doing acts of worship and displaying obedience to Allah, which in turn leads to a deeper understanding and acceptance of the rulings of Islam.

“It is not fitting for a Believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by Allah and His Messenger to have any option about their decision: if any one disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he is indeed evidently on a wrong path.” [33:36]

And Allah (The Glorified and Exalted) Knows Best.
