salam alaycoum warahamto allah wabarakatu,

Im confused a bit here! we all know that the earth has the shape of an ostrish egg as The Qur’an mentions the actual shape of the earth in the following verse:
"And we have made the earth egg shaped".[Al-Qur’an 79:30]

and as we all know that the Qur’an and modern established science are in perfect harmony.

Q. Can anyone point out the SCIENTIFIC facts of the earth that the earth is shaped like an ostrich egg?? coz the earth does'nt look like an egg shaped to me..im not trying to say that their is a mistake in the quran or somthing..:astag: no way!!..but i just want it clear in my mind..i really want an answer for this..

The Earth is not a perfect sphere. The shape of the Earth surface is that of an oblate spheroid. It is flattened at the poles. The polar radius is about 25 km less than the equatorial radius. The oblateness is a consequence principally of the Earth's axial rotation.

it definitely loooks like an egg. You can definitelly realize that the shape of it is not circular. It definitelly looks like an egg. Allahu akbar.

cool..! alhamdulillah we have an egg shaped earth...ostrich egg shaped to be precise...:p

They dont have it in any translation I checked.

Even though I favor only the Muhsin Khan one:

The only reference I found to eggs was:

"(Delicate and pure) as if they were (hidden) eggs (well) preserved." (Qur'aan 37:49)

Tafsir ibn kathir he will explane more us. :)

The Qur'aan did not say "egg-shaped". The Qur'aan in arabic text used the word "Dahaha" which was translated as "vast expanse" in english. I'm not an arabic speaker, but Dahaha could also mean "egg shaped", which obviously was not the one used in the translation. Note that some arabic words can mean more than one meaning in english.

When I googled this subject, I read articles claiming that the Qur'aan was mistaken about the shape of the earth as egg-shaped. In my opinion, they're using the "egg-shaped" to prove that the Qur'aan is wrong where infact, that term was never used to translate the arabic word "Dahaha". Atleast not in the reliable english translations.

As brother and sister said the meaning you posted is wrong

وَالْأَ رْضَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ دَحَاهَا​

following are differnt arabic Tafaseer,


Tafseer Qurtubi

أي بسطها . وهذا يشير إلى كون الأرض بعد السماء . وقد مضى القول فيه في أول " البقرة " عند قوله تعالى : " هو الذي خلق لكم ما في الأرض جميعا , ثم استوى إلى السماء " [ البقرة : 29 ] مستوفى والعرب تقول : دحوت الشيء أدحوه دحوا : إذا بسطته . ويقال لعش النعامة أدحى ; لأنه مبسوط على وجه الأرض ​

Tafseer Jalaieen
وَالْأَرْض بَعْد ذَلِكَ دَحَاهَا " بَسَطَهَا وَكَانَتْ مَخْلُوقَة قَبْل السَّمَاء مِنْ غَيْر دَحْو​

[30] And the earth, moreover, hath He extended (to a wide expanse);

when I see the reply from hur el 3ine I have to search for the word "dahaha".
well I from algeria and I'm good in arabic I went to the dictionnair" lisan el 3arab" ( the tong of arab) and it s better for any one. he had said: Dahaha: bassataha" spread it"
and the word mean egg shaped is El od hie , El id hi, El odhowa.....ect.it's hard for non arabic sorry.
It doesn't mean egg shaped but it mean the place where the ostrich put his eggs in the sand because she don't make a nest :)

thank you all for you replies...BBBBUUUT!!! im kind of mixed up more..coz everyone answered my her/his question in a different way..so plz can someone give me the exact answer..and inshallah when i know the exact answer and understand it ill be able to answer the question i've asked to a non-muslim(which i always get non-belivers asking me this same questions)..challenging me to answer it..:(
