delines of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning sleep
I want to know how the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to sleep. Did he sleep on a bed or on the floor? Did he used to recite a specific du’aa’ when he wanted to sleep?
Praise be to Allaah.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to sleep sometimes on a mattress, sometimes on a leather mat, sometimes on a mat made of palm leaves, sometimes on the floor, sometimes on a bed, sometimes on the sand, and sometimes on a black cloak.
‘Abbaad ibn Tameem said, narrating from his paternal uncles: I saw the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) lying on his back in the mosque, putting one leg on top of the other. (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 475; Muslim, 2100).
His mattress was made of leather stuffed with palm fibres, and he had a coarse woollen cloth that he would fold over twice and sleep on.
The point is that he slept on a mattress and covered himself with a blanket. He said to his wives: “Jibreel never came to me whilst I was under the blanket of any one of you apart from ‘Aa’ishah.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 3775).
His pillow was also leather stuffed with palm fibres.
When he went to bed to sleep, he would say: “Allaahumma bismika ahyaa wa amoot (O Allaah, in Your name I live and die).” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 7394).
He used to put his hands together and blow into them, then recite Qul Huwa Allaahu ahad, Qul a’oodhu bi Rabb il-Falaq and Qul a’oodhu bi Rabb il-Naas [i.e., the last three soorahs of the Qur’aan), then he would wipe his hands over as much of his body as he could, starting with his head and face, and the front part of his body. He would do that three times.
He used to sleep on his right side, putting his right hand under his right cheek, then he would say: “Allaahumma qini ‘adhaabaka yawma tab’ath ‘ibaadaka (O Allaah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your slaves).”
And when he went to bed he used to say: “Al-hamdu Lillaah alladhi at’amanaa wa saqaanaa wa kafaanaa wa aawanaa fakam mimman laa kaafi lahu wa laa mu’wi (All praise is for Allaah, Who fed us and gave us to drink, and Who is sufficient for us and has sheltered us, for how many have none to suffice them or shelter them).” This was narrated by Muslim, who also narrated that he used to say when he went to bed:
“Allaahumma Rabb al-samawaati wa’l-ard wa Rabb al-‘arsh il-‘azeem, Rabbaanaa wa Rabba kulli shay’in, Faaliq al-habb wa’l-nawa wa munzil al-Tawraati wa’l-Injeeli wa’l-Furqaan, a’oodhu bika min sharri kulli shay’in anta aakhidhun bi naasiyatihi. Allaahumma anta al-awwal fa laysa qablaka shay’un, wa anta al-aakhir fa laysa ba’daka shay’un, wa anta al-zaahir fa laysa fawqaka shay’un wa anta al-baatin fa laysa doonaka shay’un. Iqdi ‘annaa al-dayna wa aghninaa min al-faqri (O Allaah, Lord of the seven heavens and the exalted Throne, our Lord and Lord of all things, splitter of the seed and the date-stone, Revealer of the Tawraat and the Injeel and the Furqaan [Qur’aan], I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You shall seize by the forelock [have total mastery over]. O Allaah, You are the First so there is nothing before You, and You are the Last so there is nothing after You. You are al-Zaahir [the greatest and highest] so there is nothing above You, and You are al-Baatin [aware of the subtlest secrets] so there is nothing closer than You. Settle our debt for us and spare us from poverty).” (Narrated by Muslim)
When he woke up from sleep he would say: “Al-hamdu Lillaah alladhi ahyaana ba’d ma amaatana wa ilayhi al-nushoor (Praise be to Allaah Who has brought us back to life after causing us to die, and unto Him is the resurrection).” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6312). Then he would clean his teeth using the miswaak, and recite the last ten aayahs from Soorat Aal ‘Imraan, from the verse (interpretation of the meaning):
“Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth…”
[Aal ‘Imraan 3:190-200]
And he would say: “Allaahumma laka al-hamd anta noor al-samawaati wa’l-ard wa man fihinna, wa laka al-hamd anta qayyim ul-samaawaati wa’l-ard wa man fihinna, wa laka al-hamd anta al-haqq wa wa’duka al-haqq wa liqaa’uka haqq wa’l-jannatu haqq wa’l-naaru haqq wa’l-nabiyoona haqq wa Muhammadun haqq wa’l-saa’atu haqq. Allaahumma laka aslamtu wa bika aamantu wa ‘alayka tawakkaltu wa ilayka anabtu wa bika khaasamtu wa ilayka haakamtu faghfir li ma qaddamutu wa ma akhartu wa ma asrartu wa ma a’lantu anta ilaahi laa ilaaha illa anta (O Allaah, to You be praise, You are the Light of the heavens and the earth and everyone in them. To You be praise, You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and everyone in them. To You be praise, You are the Truth (al-Haqq), Your promise is true, the meeting with You is true, Paradise is true, Hell is true, the Prophets are true, Muhammad is true and the Hour is true. O Allaah, to You I submit myself, in You I believe, in You I put my trust, to You I repent, by Your help I strive (against Your enemies) and to You I refer for judgement, so forgive me my past and future sins, what I do in secret and what I do openly. You are my God and there is no god but You).” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1120).
He used to sleep during the first part of the night and get up to pray during the last part. Sometimes he would stay up late to deal with the interests of the Muslims. His eyes slept but his heart did not. When he slept, they would not wake him up; he would be the one to wake up.
When he stopped to rest at night during a journey, he would lie down on his right side, and if he stopped to rest just before dawn he would prop his head up on his forearm, resting it in his palm. This was narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
His sleep was of the best length and it was the most beneficial of sleep. The doctors say that it is one-third of the night and day, namely eight hours.

Du’aa’ for protection
In one of the mosques I found a piece of paper on which was written “Du’aa’ al-Tahseen (prayer for protection). The du’aa’ was as follows:
“I seek protection in Allaah besides Whom there is no god, my God and the God of all things. I seek the protection of my Lord and the Lord of all things. I put my trust in the Ever-Living Who does not die, and I ward off evil with (the words) there is no power and no strength except with Allaah. Allaah is sufficient for us and He is the best disposer of affairs. Allaah is sufficient for me Who is sufficient for us. The Lord is sufficient for me and I have no need of His slaves. The Creator is sufficient for me and I have no need of His creation. The Provider is sufficient for me and I have no need of those who are granted provision. He is sufficient for me Who is sufficient for me. He is sufficient for me in Whose hand is the sovereignty of all things, Who protects (all), while against Whom there is no protector (i.e. if Allaah saves anyone, none can punish or harm him; and if Allaah punishes or harms anyone, none can save him) [cf. al-Mu’minoon 23:88]. He is sufficient for me. Allaah hears those who call upon Him, and there is no object of hope beyond Allaah. Allaah is sufficient for me, there is no god but He. In Him do I put my trust and He is the Lord of the mighty Throne.”
Is this hadeeth saheeh?.
Praise be to Allaah.
This du’aa’ is not proven from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Something similar was narrated by Ibn Abi’l-Dunya in al-Faraj ba’d al-Shiddah, via al-Khaleel ibn Murrah from the faqeeh of the people of Jordan, who said “we heard that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)…” It was classed as da’eef by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Da’eefah, 4173; and Da’eef al-Jaami’, 4348
Since it has not been proven in any saheeh report that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said this, no attention should be paid to it.
There are du’aa’s which have been narrated in saheeh ahaadeeth which are sufficient, and we have no need for the du’aa’s narrated in weak reports. These du’aa’s protect the Muslim, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) always used to recite them, such as the dhikrs for morning and evening, and other saheeh ahaadeeth. For example:
1 – Reciting the last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah every night. It was narrated that Abu Mas’ood al-Badri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The last two verses of Soorat al-Baqarah, whoever recites them at night, they will be sufficient for him.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4008; Muslim, 807. al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: “With regard to the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ‘they will be sufficient for him,’ it was said that it means they will suffice instead of praying qiyaam al-layl; and it was said, they will suffice him against the Shaytaan, or against harm. It may be understood as meaning all of these things.’”
2 – Du’aa’ al-karb (prayer at times of stress). It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say at times of stress:
“Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah ul-‘azeem al-haleem, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah Rabb il-‘arsh il’azeem, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah Rabb ul-samawaati wa rabb ul-ard wa rabb ul-‘arsh il-kareem (There is no god but Allaah, the Almighty, the Forbearing; there is no god but Allaah, Lord of the Mighty Throne; there is no god but Allaah, Lord of the heavens, Lord of the earth and Lord of the noble Throne).” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 6346; Muslim, 2730.
Reciting Soorat al-Ikhlaas, Soorat al-Falaq and Soorat al-Naas. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to recite them when going to sleep, and he would blow into his hands and then wipe them over whatever he could reach of his body. It was narrated from ‘Aa’ishah that every night when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went to bed, he would cup his hands together, blow into them then recite into them Qul Huwa Allaahu ahad, Qul a’oodhu bi Rabb il-falaq and Qul ‘aoodhu bi Rabb il-naas, then he would wipe as much as he could reach of his body, starting with his head and face and the front of his body. And he would do that three times. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5018.
And it was narrated that ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Aamir said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Have you not seen the verses that were revealed tonight, the like of which has never been seen? Qul a’oodhu bi Rabb il-falaq and Qul ‘aoodhu bi Rabb il-naas. Narrated by Muslim, 814.
And Allaah knows best.

He wants to learn the awraad and adhkaars prescribed in Islam
I would like you to write for me the “awraad and adhkaars prescribed in Islam ”.
Praise be to Allaah.
With regard to awraad and adhkaar (dhikr etc.), there are many of them. Among those which have been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) are adhkaar for getting up from sleep, du’aa’s for morning and evening, and when going to sleep. One of the du’aa’s which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) taught us to say in the morning and evening is as follows:
“Reciting ‘Qul Huwa Allaahu Ahad’ and al-Mi’wadhatayn [the last two soorahs of the Qur’aan] three times in the evening and in the morning will protect you against everything.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, al-Da’waat, 3499. It was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2829)
Sayyid al-Istighfaar (the most superior way of asking for forgiveness), which is:
“Allaahumma Anta Rabbee laa ilaah illa Anta, khalaqtani wa ana ‘abduka wa ana ‘ala ‘ahdika wa wad’ika maa asta’tu, a’oodhu bika min sharri ma sana’tu aboo’u laka bi ni’matika ‘alayya wa aboo’u laka bi dhanbi, faghfir li fa innahu laa yaghfir al-dhunoob illa anta (O Allaah, you are my Lord. None has the right to be worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I am faithful to my covenant and my promise (to You) as much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive sins except You.).” He [the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)] said: Whoever says this during the day, believing in it with certainty, then dies on that day before evening comes, will be one of the people of Paradise, and whoever says it at night, believing in it with certainty, then dies on that night before morning comes, will be one of the people of Paradise.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, al-Da’waat, 6306)
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah said:
“The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever says morning and evening, Subhaan Allaah wa bihamdih (Glory and praise be to Allaah)’ one hundred times, no one will come on the Day of Resurrection with anything better than him, except for one who said the same as he said, or who said more.’(Narrated by Muslim, al-Dhikr wa’l-Du’aa’, 2692)
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “If a person says, every day in the morning and every night in the evening, ‘Bismillaah alladhi laa yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ardi wa laa fi’l-sama’ wa Huwa al-Samee’ al-‘Aleem (In the name of Allaah with Whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in heaven, and He is the All-Seeing, the All-Knowing)’, three times, nothing will harm him.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, al-Da’waat, 3388, Al-Albaani said in Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, it is hasan saheeh. No. 2689)
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say in the evening:
“Amsayna wa amsaa al-mulku Lillaahi wa’l-hamdu Lillaahi wa laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah… ([the narrator] said: I think he added)… lahu’l-mulk wa lahu’l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadeer. As’aluka khayra ma fi hadhihi’l-laylah wa khayra ma bad’ahaa. Wa a’oodhu bika min sharri hadhihi’l-laylah wa sharri ma bad’ahaa. Wa a’oodhu bika min al-kasal wa soo’ al-kibari wa a’oodhu bika min ‘adhaab al-naar wa ‘adhaab al-qabr (We have reached the evening and at this very time unto Allaah belongs all sovereignty, and all praise is for Allaah. None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah alone, without any partner. ([the narrator] said: I think he added)…To Him belongs all sovereignty and praise, and He is over all things omnipotent. My Lord, I ask You for the good of this night and the good of what follows it, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this night and the evil of what follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from laziness and senility. My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the Fire and the punishment of the grave).” And in the morning he used to say that too: “Asbahnaa wa asbaha al-mulk Lillaah wa’l-hamdu Lillaah…(We have reached the morning and at this very time unto Allaah belongs all sovereignty…)”.
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, al-Daw’aat, 3390; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2699)
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) taught his companions to say in the morning,
“Allaahumma bika asbahnaa wa bika amsaynaa wa bika nayha wa bika namoot wa ilayka al-maseer (O Allaah, by Your leave we have reached the morning and by Your leave we have reached the evening, by Your leave we live and die, and unto You is our return),” and to say in the evening, “Allaahumma bika amsaynaa wa bika asbahna wa bika nahya wa bika namoot wa ilayka al-nushoor (O Allaah, by Your leave we have reached the evening and by Your leave we have reached the morning, by Your leave we live and die, and unto You is our resurrection).”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, al-Da’waat, 3391; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani, no. 2700)
He taught one of his companions to say: “Allaahumma ‘aalim al-ghaybi wa’l-shahaadah, faatir al-samawaati wa’l-ard, Rabba kulli shay’in wa maleekahu, ash-hadu an laa ilaaha ill anta, a’oodhu bika min sharri nafsi wa min sharri’l-shaytaan wa sharakihi (O Allaah, knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord and sovereign of all things, I bear witness that there none has the right to be worshipped except You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my own self and from the evil of the Shaytaan and his tricks).” He said: “Say this in the morning and in the evening, and when you go to your bed.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, al-Da’waat, 3392; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan al-Tirmidhi, no. 2701)
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never missed reciting these du’aa’s in the evening and in the morning:
“Allaahumma inni as’aluka al-‘aafiyah fi’l-dunya wa’l-aakhirah. Allaahumma inni as’aluka al-‘afw wa’l-‘aafiyah fi deeni wa dunyaaya wa ahli wa maali. Allaahumma astur ‘awrati [‘Uthmaan said, ‘awraati] wa aamin raw’aati. Allaahumma ihfazni min bayna yadayya wa min khalfi wa ‘an yameeni wa ‘an shimaali wa min fawqi wa a’oodhu bi ‘azamatika an ughtaala min tahti (O Allaah, I ask You for well-being in this world and in the Hereafter. O Allaah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religious and worldly affairs, and my family and my wealth. O Allaah, conceal my faults and keep me safe from the things that I fear. O Allaah, protect me from the front and from behind, and on my right and on my left and from above, and I seek refuge in Your greatness from receiving unexpected harm from below me [being swallowed up by the earth]).”
(Narrated by Abu Dawood, al-Adab, 5074. Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, 4239)
Similarly he said: “ ‘Allaahumma inni a’oodhu bika min al-kufri wa’l-faqri. Allaahumma inni a’oodhi bika min ‘adhaab al-qabri. Laa ilaaha illa anta (O Allaah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and poverty. O Allaah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of the grave. None has the right to be worshipped except You).’ Repeat this three times in the morning and three times in the evening”
(Narrated by Abu Dawood, al-Adab 5090. Al-Albaani said in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, its isnaad is hasan. No. 4245)
And he said: “Subhaan Allaah wa bi hamdihi ‘adada khalqihi wa ridaa nafsihi wazinata ‘arshihi wa midaada kalimaatihi (Glory be to Allaah and praise be to Him (as great as) the number of His creatures, the extent of His satisfaction, the weight of His domain and the ink (needed to write down His countless) signs (of presence, omnipotence and grace)).”
(Narrated by Muslim, al-Dhikr wa’l-Istighfaar, 4905. This is to be said in the morning).
For more information, see Question # 3064, and books of saheeh du’aa’s. And Allaah knows best.

‘Abdullaah ibn Mas’ood said: “Whoever reads ‘al-Mulk’ every night, Allaah will protect him from the torment of the grave. At the time of the Messenger of Allaah (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam), we used to call it al-mani’ah (that which protects). In the Book of Allah, there is a chapter [and] whoever recites it every night has done very well.” [Sahih at-Targhib wat-Tarhib, no. 1475]
Imam Ahmad recorded from Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) that Allah’s Messenger (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam) said, “Verily, there is a chapter in the Qur’an which contains thirty Ayat that will intercede on behalf of its reciter until he is forgiven. (It is): ‘Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion.’”
[This Hadith was collected by At-Tirmidhi and the four Sunan Compilers. At-Tirmidhi said concerning it, "This is a Hasan Hadith."]
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam) saying, “There is a Surah in the Qur’an which contains thirty Ayat which kept interceding for a man until his sins are forgiven. This Surah is ‘Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion.’ (Surat Al-Mulk 67).” [At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud].
Commentary from Riyad-us-Saliheen: This Hadith means that on the Day of Resurrection this Surah will intercede with Allaah for the forgiveness of its reciter. This Hadith has been narrated (in Arabic) in the past tense because, like the past indefinite, its occurrence is definite and not open to inquiry. At some places, however, it has also been narrated in the present tense.
He (salallaahu ‘alaihiwasallam) used to recite Surah As-Sajdah and Surah Al-Mulk (in Arabic) before sleeping.

i think true dreams are frm Allah as shaitan has no knowledge of Unseen.
maybe its a sign of Allah's love for u.
regarding bad dreams, seek refuge in Allah, spit on ur left 3 times and DONT mention it to anybody.
inshallah no harm will come upon u sister.
Allah's Apostle said, "When the Day of Resurrection approaches, the dreams of a believer will hardly fail to come true, and a dream of a believer is one of forty-six parts of prophetism, and whatever belongs to propthetism can never be false." Sahih Bukhari

As a further information, this is to be done when you wake-up in middle of a bad dream or after it ends. Now, we cannot spit, because then our room will get dirty. So the best way is to dry-spit 3 times after saying, "A'oodhu Billahi Minas-shaitaanirrajeem". The turn your side of sleeping. It means if you were on your left when you saw it, then turn to right or to some other position.
InshaAllah if you do it as beloved brother Ahmed said, you will never have any harm from it in your life here or hereafter.

Now what coming true part is because you are close to Allah swt and you are being guided.Don't be scared as you are not in inncorrect path.
Dreams which come after lunch and right after dinner like 12 am then they are mostly not true because they come to blood circulation ( completely different topic)
So yah Wish you the best sister
Discuss only with some knowing person about your dreams and none other than that person

BaarakAllahfeekh dear brother for your kind advice.mashallah they are really usefull, and Almadulillah te ala I feel now more peacefull knowing that truthfull dreams can be only from Allah subhan we tealaa, and not from Shatyaan.
It is also good to sleap with wudhuu Alhamdulilah, what I aslo do. I am trying to use my dreams because somtimes they are remaiding me what will happen, like I am dremaing that some persone will come to visit me,and next day or after day that perosne really visit me. And Allah knows the best.
May Allah bless you
May Allah reword you brother for your kindness.

i think true dreams are frm Allah as shaitan has no knowledge of Unseen.
maybe its a sign of Allah's love for u.
regarding bad dreams, seek refuge in Allah, spit on ur left 3 times and DONT mention it to anybody.
inshallah no harm will come upon u sister.
Allah's Apostle said, "When the Day of Resurrection approaches, the dreams of a believer will hardly fail to come true, and a dream of a believer is one of forty-six parts of prophetism, and whatever belongs to propthetism can never be false." Sahih Bukhari
