no think about what vitamin d does

Libinette
04-19-2007, 04:32 PM
Because It promotes bone formation which is important for the skeletoooon

al-fajr
04-19-2007, 04:32 PM
erm cos of the calcium? does vitamin D effect calcium levels?

Jihan
04-19-2007, 05:05 PM
Close. without Vitamin D the body cannot process calcium. Vitamin D naturally is recieved from the sun. Before the Child labor laws were passed, children would work in factories for 12-16 hours a day in th U.S. so they would never see daylight, no vitamin d. . no vitamin= no calcium processer=weak bones. The children would get a disease called rickets where the bones would crumple and the childre would grow to have humps on their backs and their bodies would shrivel. After it became against the law employers to have children working under certain ages aand not to have more than eigth hour working schedul, vitamin d was also added to milk so anybody who got milk got calcium and vitamin d.

Elephant is correct, was it too easy how about this next question.

Who was Phineas Gage, what was discovered due to his life experience?

Is there anyone who wants to ask a question? if there ignore this qestion.

Elephant is correct, was it too easy how about this next question.

Who was Phineas Gage, what was discovered due to his life experience?

i think he was that guy who got that really bad head injury...a pieces of iron passed right through the bottom of his cheek and came out the top of his head

he didnt die though, his behaviour changed....so they made brain discoveries cos of his injury

Jihan
04-20-2007, 02:34 PM
yes he was the guy who got hit in the head in 1800's from lebanon, new hamshire. It was an explosion that caused a 3 foot long and 1.5 inch long iron rod to go up his cheek and come out of his upper frontal lobe. The man ended getting a hole in skull around the frontal cortex. his coworkers ran to him expecting a dead man, but he was breathing and living. after a few seconds he was rushed to the hospital. the man could see just find, he reacted to light, all his senses were fine, he had no pain from accident, regular heartbeat. Only after he went back to work and his life did everyone see that gage was a changed man. He became irresponsible, he would use profanities, he broke his promises constantly, and he lied. None of these were his previous personalities. the damage in his frontal lobe area caused him not to be able to control his social behaivor. This led to science discovery of the frontal cortex being responsiple for social behaivor such as lying.

Surah al 'alaq " the lying, sinnful (rebellious)forelock"

Jihan
04-21-2007, 04:30 AM
yes I got that from biology plus I did a little extra googling

Do you know what causes a rainbow?

ShaheedU
04-21-2007, 10:01 AM
Skittles! No wait, that comes from rainbows.

The light from the sun passing through something, possibly the clouds at a different speed?

Its a guess.

al-fajr

Skittles! No wait, that comes from rainbows

someone has evidently been watching too much Cbeebies.

Rainbows come about because of refraction. Refraction is the bending of light rays by mirrors. When light is split seven colours can be seen. The raindrops act as mirrors for the sunrays, so when the sun rays hit the raindrops they are bent to different angles each raindrop creates its own spectrum which is tiny, but when there are millions and millions of these spectra together a rainbow appears....

theres more to it then that though....apparently it matters about the angle at which the light is bent...but Jihan can tell that bit...

which guy set the precedent for our modern day animal rights laws?

(from history)

(this is actually very ironic)

Jihan
04-21-2007, 03:17 PM
was it hitler

was it by a vegan its that the ironic part

nice job with the rainbow question. you missed a few details but that's okay.

al-fajr
04-21-2007, 03:21 PM
no its not cos he was a vegan...he was carnivorous...but thats not the ironic bit either

time period is...last century (big clue)

and ive also told u it was 'he' now :)

oooo hitler? close close but no

ShaheedU
04-21-2007, 03:25 PM
It was a dude from the last century, yeh that sure does narrow it down!

Be careful you just dont give us the answer!

Is it ironic cos the dude married a animal?

al-fajr
04-21-2007, 03:31 PM
no it is not...!

...what narrows it down for u i guess is that it was not football player....how many people does that leave in ure head.....not many? ;)

ShaheedU
04-21-2007, 03:34 PM
Touche,

Winston Churchill, played for west ham i think:) jk.

al-fajr
04-21-2007, 03:42 PM
^have u ever seen a picture of that man? no i dont suppose u have otherwise u wouldnt have said that.

hitler was close enough...ill say who it was

it was Hermann Goring?

he was one the ideologues behind the mass slaughter of jews in the second world war but he was also the pioneer of animal rights....as opposed to human rights?

the laws he came up with havnt been changed for today but all the other Nazi policies have.

.......next question anybody?

ShaheedU
04-21-2007, 04:23 PM
i have seen Winston chrchill's pic actually, and my question is have you seen the state of the west ham team at the moment?!

Anyways, What is the worlds largest mammal?

i go with the slightly easier questions.

al-fajr
04-21-2007, 04:29 PM
^ yeah but churchill is dead? u did realise that i hope?

...its the blue whale....110 feet long.

Just past the 300th post in this thread by ShaheedU. So I thought I'd summarise some of the statistics on this thread so far.

Congratulations to ShaheedU for reaching a 100 posts in this thread - a TTI first I think - one in every three posts in this thread are yours .. and almost a fifth of all your posts on on this site :D

Isra has posted a quarter of all her posts here. (I used to think you were a brother! :hijabi: ) And together with libin, you guys make up about two-thirds of this bulky thread.

Salams.

salam,

...when the water falls from a height....it generates energy which can be used to power something else?

:salam2:

lol... close.

ok, there's a neat name for this, but i don't know how to spell it, so I'm not gonna attempt it. :p

The water coming down from such a hieght with the pull of gravity creates water pressure which makes it easier to get the water where it needs to go. (or something like that, i think i zoned out when they were talking abt it)

I've also heard that Any buildings that are taller then a water tower cannot have access to water above the line of the tower because the water wouldn't have force or something

Anyway, so yup. And for the pasta question, I was gonna say "Italy" too, but it seems so obvious that I guess it's not right.

and p.s. nice calculations bro DNA ........ :D :D This is one crazy thread that's been overtaken by you all Brits... :)
