What happened?

At 0710 on Saturday 13th March 2010, the body of 56-year-old Abdel Salam Hassan Abdel Salam was found slumped in the doorway of his flat in Boone Street, Lewisham. He had been stabbed several times in various parts of his body including his face and stomach. He received a fatal wound in his leg, and bled to death on the floor.

Wounds found on Abdel Salam'’s hands, suggest that there would have been a struggle during the incident, and that he was trying to defend himself. The incident has devastated his former wife, Wafa, and only child Azza. "There are certain people that make you feel everything is okay, the world is an okay place. My dad was the person who did that for me. I'm never going to have that now."

But the loss of Abdel Salam has also had an impact on a great number of other people. A committed Human Rights Lawyer and devoted campaigner for peace, Abdel Salam had come to the UK having been exiled from Sudan in the late 80s for his work in defending victims. He resumed his work here, and worked tirelessly to fight against the injustice suffered by torture victims...

The rest of the story is on this site. There's even a reconstruction video of the incident: http://www.bbc.co.uk/crimewatch/appeals/2010/04/humanrights_lawyermurder.shtml
