IMPORTANT: Info regarding US states with most Muslims ??

Salaam everybody,

I am thinking of pursuing my MS in Chemical Engineering from USA. I find it very difficult to select Universities of my choice. While Reputation of an University is definitely very important but so is size of muslim population of that place in which the University is located. I am looking forward to studying in a place in US where I should not feel alone being a muslim, where I can find a mosque to offer namaz with fellow muslims and most importantly can enjoy Eids (Fitr & Zuha) with other muslims.

It would be extremely helpful to me if some forum members come forward giving me names of states or cities or names of specific Universities where there are sizable number muslim population in USA.

Although i spent around 5 years in US but I was not very well connected with Muslim Community there so i can't make any suggestion but I would say if you go to any main state like NY, NJ, CA, FL , IL .. you will find large and well established Muslim communities there.

there is also a large muslim population in and around Dallas and Ft Worth Texas you can see a lot if you check islamicfinder.com there are so many universities here

most colleges here have at least an MSA, but if you are concerned, your best bet would be any of the texas schools, UTarlington for example as a very STRONG MSA, but i also have to represent my alma mater so GOOO University of Maryland...:D, we also have a great and very active MSA. anything in the east coast(NY,NJ,DC) will be pretty much okay. Like me i'm stuck in the midwest(middle of nowhere) and my school still has a MSA and there is a very nice local mousqe here as well. So just choose a school in a big city and you will be okay....hope this helps...:hijabi:

yup exactly, Texas is the way to go....lol. Im actually thinking of settling down in texas when im done, they really have a nice muslim population down there, they have the annual texas dawah which is FANTASTIC and they have a very nice top of the line islamic private school....but inshallah we will see, i dont know if i can do that Texas heat...its hoottt:ma::eek:

I believe Michigan has the largest Muslim population outside of the middle east and California has the second largest.

Michigan has a bad economy and nasty weather, go with Cali!

But remember that cost of living in California is astronomical! I plan on living in Michigan for part of my clinical rotations and I've heard the community is wonderful. And I am from Florida so the weather will be a challenge for someone like me.

I live in New York.....my major is Mechanical Engineering........i m persuing tht at CITY COLLEGE...........

New York is the best place to live.......u gonna find all sort of people...........if u have some attachment with DESI (INDIAN, PAKI, BENGALI) then Jackson Heights is the best place for you...........

U gonna find Muslims and mosques all around here.........

Are you looking for a University in America. Because in Canada there is a very good muslim community in Kitchener/Waterloo in Ontario. Very close to USA. With 2 University's there.
