Thats so sad, :astag: isn't the grandfather Muslim?! Thank God the baby is going to be ok now. I just pray that they give her a good home and that the grandfather goes to jail for a very long time.

among indian poor families infanticide (baby girls especially) is a common practice and even more in the chinese peasants! usually by burying alive. we were learning about this in class how it is done mostly by hindus(in india) and buddhists(in china).

We do not know if he is MUSLIM, Abdul Rahman does not equal Muslim. The Prophet Muhammad's father was Abdullah but he is in the hell fire because he was an Idol worshipper.

This grandfather says "I am yet to marry off four daughters and cannot take responsibility for a fifth one, even when she is only a granddaughter," Mr Rahman was quoted as telling police."

Islamically what has that got to do with anything. Daughters getting married off is not a burden on the family, it is a happy event, In fact the bride is given the bride 'price' by the groom, unless they do it like is it the hindus where the girl pays dowry?

It defies logic as well, if everyone wants a boy and the whole village or country is filled with boys who is going to give birth to more boys. Who are these boys going to marry. Will homosexuality be the norm then? If their wives or mothers were killed would they be alive now? How do these people think?

Undoubtedly this action is one of the deeds of the first Jaahiliyyah, from the conduct of its ill-mannered people, those who were blamed and condemned in the Qur’aan and Sunnah.

How similar things are today to those times (as we find in the story above). Also, if you visit any maternity hospital in a Muslim country, and look around at the faces of those to whom daughters have been born, listening to what they say and seeing how they are, you will see a strange similarity between many of these people and the people of the Jaahiliyyah, of whom Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And when the news of (the birth of) a female (child) is brought to any of them, his face becomes dark, and he is filled with inward grief!

He hides himself from the people because of the evil of that whereof he has been informed. Shall he keep her with dishonour or bury her in the earth? Certainly, evil is their decision!”

[al-Nahl 16:58-59]

One of the manifestations of this dislike of daughters is that in some hospitals, when they find out whether the foetus is male of female by doing an ultrasound scan, if it is male they tell the family, and if it is female they say nothing. This is a very serious matter from which stem a number of haraam things, including the following:

- It implies objecting to the decree of Allaah.

- It is a rejection of the gift which Allaah has given, instead of thanking Him for it. This is sufficient to earn Allaah’s anger and expose one to punishment.

- It involves humiliating the woman and putting her down, and putting unbearable pressure on her.

- It is an indication of foolishness, ignorance, stupidity and a lack of reason.

- It implies resemblance to the people of the Jaahiliyyah.

The Muslim should avoid such behaviour, and save himself from such destructive thinking. Submitting to the decree of Allaah is obligatory, and accepting it is one of the attributes of the believers.

Moreover, the virtue of girls is not unknown, for they are our mothers and sisters, and wives. They are one half of society which gives birth to the other half, so it is as if they are the entire society. See Tuhfat al-Mawlood fi Ahkaam al-Mawlood by Ibn al-Qayyim, p. 16.

Another indication of their virtue is the fact that Allaah calls their coming a gift (something which is bestowed), and mentions them before the males in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“He bestows female (offspring) upon whom He wills, and bestows male (offspring) upon whom He wills” [al-Shooraa 42:49]

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also explained their virtue and urged kind treatment of them, as he said:

“Whoever is tested by means of these girls, and he treats them with kindness, they will be a protection for him from the Fire.”

(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1418, with al-Fath; Muslim, 2729).

Sister are you sure he was an idol worshiper ?

I have heard that even before the advent of Muhammad SAW there were people in Makkah who were not idolators and were truely disgusted about the idol worshiping.

Idol worshiping was not a very old practice of Pagan Arabs but it was introduced to them by some businessman who went to some neighbouring place where he found people worshiping idols and he brought some idols from there and placed them in Makkah.

Maybe some more knowledgable person can shed more light on this issue.

Astazgfirullah...horrible....
In india specially in Hindus this was a and some places still it is that if a baby girl is born they killed her because they considered it as a curse but after the Mughal rule came this practice slowly started to slow down but people in villages who are illetrate still have this conception, but really disappointed that such acts are done by muslims because Muslims were the one who tried to stop such horrific acts.
But specially in villages muslims who are in minorities and live with the hindus they have strange name 'like their name or last name are familiar to hindus' but they call themselves as muslims but unfortunately they dont even know what is Kalimah how to read it. They were convererted or because they have been living with nonmuslims for generation they dont have the basic concept of islam. Its hard to know if u should say Salam to them or greet differently until u let them greet u first. Its very sad I had lot of such encounters when I was there. I think the Tabligh jamat in India must do some dawah work in such areas rather then going to china or some foreign country "which is like charity begins at home".
We pray that may Allah grant us wisdom and make us show the right path.Aameen
