OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- The estimated 12,000 political and resistance prisoners languishing in Israeli detention centers have issued an impassioned appeal to both Fatah and Hamas to stop factional fighting and “return to the voice of reason and wisdom.”

The appeal, issued Wednesday night, stated that Palestinian prisoners in Israeli “dungeons and torture cells” were being horrified and shocked by the rampageous infighting in Gaza.

Five days of bloody clashes between Hamas and Fatah forces in the Gaza Strip have left as many as 70 people dead and as many injured. Most of the casualties are believed to be fighters and militiamen.

“It is crystal clear that what has been happening in Gaza doesn’t serve the supreme interests of the Palestinian people. Therefore, we demand that the infighting be stopped immediately.”

The petition, issued from the Negev Ketziot detention camp and apparently endorsed by representatives of various factions, including Fatah and Hamas, didn’t blame any particular faction for the infighting.

However, it called on both Fatah and Hamas to display national responsibility and refrain from resorting to violence.

“We ask the great Fatah movement which has led the struggle for liberation and freedom for more than forty years the following question: At whom are you training your guns? Have you forgotten that the sons of Hamas are your brothers. Don’t you realize that the bullets fired in the direction of other Palestinians are treacherous bullets?”

The appeal urged Hamas to show self-restraint and to listen to the voices of wisdom and reason.

“We call on you to listen to the voices of reason and stop the fighting between the brothers which only serves the interests of our enemy, the Israeli occupier of our homeland and tormentor of our people.”

The appeal proposed an initiative consisting of a 10-point initiative, stipulating, inter alia, an immediate ceasefire, withdrawal of armed men from the streets and the adoption of confidence-building measures.

The initiative also called on the Egyptian security delegation to double efforts to put an end to the infighting and restore calm. It also urged Arab states, such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia , to isolate “suspicious third parties that continually seek to stoke the fire of civil war among Palestinians.”

Other clauses in the initiative included a call on Fatah ministers to cancel their earlier decision to suspend their participation in the government and warning against schemes that would separate Gaza Strip from the West Bank .

The initiative stressed that utmost efforts would have to be made to prevent the tragic events in Gaza from spreading to the West Bank.

alsalam alykom,
Here in Gaza, everything seems so tragic. people are waiting after feeling tired of calling for stopping the infighting between brothers. It makes me feel depressed to see these news spreading all over the world to give the whole world a bad picture of palestinians, to destroy their struggle for their islamic land as a small group of people has given the whole world that idea. Beleive me, not only prisoners but the most of the ppl here are calling for the stop of these humiliating acts, and we need u to pray for the peace of our ppl
