Assalamu alaikom waramutulahi wabarakatu.
I was raised as a Christian from birth (the religion of my family), however, there were a number of things that did not make sense to me and that I had problems accepting. Through my whole life I have had Muslim friends so I did know some things, but it was only when I met the woman who is now my wife that I really started to learn about Islam. After learning for a month or so, I took the shahadah in 2005, and feel so grateful that I had the opportunity to make this most important decision.
The main difficulty that I have at the moment is how to tell my family. We are a very close family and there has never been any secrecy between us, but I don't know how best to go about telling them this.
The reason I want them to know is not simply to announce that I am a Muslim, but it is because I want to help them learn so that they will revert too. My family are people who probably know more about Islam than many others do, and they respect and have no problem with the Muslim faith.
I have the idea that it would be hard to persuade them because they are 'practising' Christians, and I would guess that they would initially be upset that I have rejected the faith that I was brought up in. I do know that I have to find a way to do this because I want to help them know the true path. I am certain that even if they decided not to revert, it would not spoil the long-term relationship that we have.
Has anyone else ever been in this situation, and does anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to proceed?
Thank you for your help.
