Walakumsallam,

Alhamdulillah for your time and knowledge to share what Allah has blessed you with. May we all learn from this that each of us can see by your example how we can help others in ways of being a servant of Allah.

This is very generous of you. The riches that is within you is your knowledge of languages, and understanding the Qur'an. May Allah bless you for your heart to do this for us. Alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah!

Sallam,
Kristina

In The name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

An Introduction:

The Arabic Alphabet counts 28 letters, & it is very important to know that the Arabic script is read & written from right to left.

The Arabic letters are very similar to English letter sounds, e.g. Baa is very close to letter ‘B’ in the English language, which is a useful way to remember the sounds of the letters.

In Arabic, there are three short vowel-marks which enable the letter to make a sound a similar way to the English Language, for instance (a,e,I,u) ; we’ll cover them later insha`Allah.

First Letter:

Don’t forget to bring a pen & a paper to practice.

Letter name: alif
Letter sound: a

http://www.islamictop.net/ar/1a.jpg

It is similar to number 1, with a small (hamza) over it.

How to write the letter :

http://www.islamictop.net/ar/2a.jpg

Remember that in Arabic language you should write from right to left, so when you write the letter you should write it the same direction it is shown in the above figure.

& you could write it several times to practice it very well:

http://www.islamictop.net/ar/3a.jpg

hope that it was well introduced.:)

Thank you very much, till the next lesson insha`Allah (by the will of Allah)

Vowel Marks:

In Arabic, there are 3 short vowel-marks

(we shall learn the long vowel-marks in a later lesson )

The short vowel-marks enable the letter to make a sound in a similar way to the English language. In the same way a word cannot be made in the English language without one of the 5 vowels (a, e, i, o or u), in Arabic one cannot make a word without a vowel being used.

=======================

The Single Vowel-Marks:

========================

The single vowel-marks are the basic vowel-marks which add a sound similar to that of a, i or u in the English language to the letter. Please click on the letters with the vowel-marks to hear the pronunciation.

========================

In Arabic , we use vowel-marks with the letters especially in formal writings such as Quran, etc.

But in informal writings after being practiced well in Arabic language we don`t have to concentrate on them

============================

Let`s try letter Alif (A):

The Double Vowel-Marks:

The double vowel-marks signs are an extension of the single vowel-marks. The double vowel signs add the '-n' sound to the single vowel.

Please see the letters below. The Daal has been used to enable us to see the position of the double vowel sign which is called tanween.

Tanween refers to the double form of any vowel, the specific name of the double vowel sign e.g. double Fatha is also given below as this is unique for each vowel.

the diacritical mark :Sukun & Shadda

=======================
salam alaykum....

let us start the lesson insha` All

========================

<1s> the diacritical mark :Sukun

, In this lesson we will cover the diacritical mark
(i.e. a mark added to a letter to indicate a special pronunciation)
in the Arabic language called the Sukun.

The Sukun is in the shape of a circle and is written above a letter
to show that there is no vowel on the letter.

Hence, we emphasise the letter by stopping in our pronunciation of it. This will require us to join letters. Although we have not covered the rules relating to joining of letters (covered in a later lesson) - we will use simple words to demonstrate the usage of the Sukun.

Please click on the words to hear how they are pronounced.

This is a good opportunity for you to learn how to read basic Arabic words.
Please don't worry if you find it difficult to read the words by putting the letters together. Insha'Allah, we will go over reading words in more detail later - at this stage focus on the principle of the Sukun and try your best to read the words.

=======================

<2nd> the diacritical mark :Shadda

Insha'Allah, we will now cover the Shadda.

The Shadda is a diacritical mark written above a letter to show that the letter has been doubled and therefore increases in emphasis.

Once again, please don't worry if you find joining the letters and vowel-marks or reading difficult. Try your best to join the sounds and letters at this stage and pay attention to the sound of the letter which has the Shadda on it.

Arabic Alphabet-joined

===============================

The joining of the Arabic Alphabet can be a difficult subject to master. The reason for this is that the way a letter joins depends on:

a) The letter being used (e.g. Alif, Baa etc) as different rules apply to different letters.
b) The position of the letter in the word (i.e. beginning, middle or end).
c) Unique letters - i.e. there are 6 letters which do not join to any other letter(but can be joined to) - this is covered below.

As there are so many different scenarios to remember, it is easier to remember the patterns. The table below shows every scenario, i.e. how each letter will be written in the beginning, middle and end of a word as well as an example of its joined form and the shape of the letter by itself (as we learnt earlier).

The most common patterns you will find below are:
a) All letters are written in their full form if they occur at the end of a word, some may slightly change shape.
b) Most letters do join to other letters in front of them, however, there are six letters which do not join to any letter after them, these letters are

( ا د ذ ر ز و ).
c) There are groups of letters which have similar shapes in individual (i.e. as learnt earlier), these groups are also similar in joined form (e.g. Baa, Taa and Thaa). The only difference in these letters is the number or positions of dots around the letter.

Whilst it is important to make an effort to look at the forms above, it is sometimes easier to look for the patterns rather than each individual letter. For example, the following groups of letters are very similar in their joined forms, in most cases the only difference is the position or number of dots used in the letters:

Baa, Taa and Thaa

Jeem, Ha and Kha

Seen and Sheen

Saad and Daad

Ta and Za

Finally, to master the different forms of joining will take some time and it is important to practice writing whilst learning the Arabic language to become familiar with the script. This will come with practice (Insha'Allah) so it is not necessary to have mastered all the letters joining forms before moving on, please move on to the next lesson after you have familiarised yourself to a reasonable level of the joined forms above. In the next lesson we will use some examples to practice and familiarise ourselves with the joined form of letters (Insha'Allah).

In this lesson we have covered some very basic words in Arabic to practise joining the letters and the sounds that they make. Insha'Allah, in the next lesson we will practice some more words which will include long vowel-marks, Sukun and Shadda which we covered in earlier lessons.

In this lesson we will continue practising joining letters and reading, Insha'Allah. We will also practice reading words with:

a) Sukun - We should pronounce the letter sound with no vowel sound i.e. Sukun acts like a stop.

b) Shadda - We should increase emphasis on the letter which has the Shadda.

c) Long vowel-marks - As we learnt in previous lessons there are 3 long vowel-marks, these lengthen the sound of the single vowel-marks.

الدَّرْسُ الأوَّلُ (http://www.islamictop.net/ar/1-1.mp3)- Lesson 1

Lesson 1 - هـ (http://www.islamictop.net/ar/1-2.mp3)ٰذا (http://www.islamictop.net/ar/1-2.mp3)- 'This is..'

Please read the sentences below. After completing the sentences we shall go over the rules for this lesson.
In Part 1 of Lesson 1 we learn how to use the pronoun هـٰذاwhich means 'This' (called the demonstrative pronoun in grammar). Hadhaa is pronounced هَاذَا but is written without the first alif. The second word is the noun (object) being referred to e.g. بَيْتٌmeans house.

Arabic has no word which is equal to the English word "is" which is referred to as a copula in grammar. We can see this rule demonstrated above where we see the words for هـٰذا and the noun/object مَسْجِد being referred to without any copula. i.e. هـٰذا مَسْجِدٌ . If read literally this sentence would read "This Mosque", however, the word "is" can be implied in this sentence so that it reads "This is a Mosque"

There is no word in Arabic corresponding to "a" in English as in: "This is a book". The n-sound, i.e. the tanween (doubled vowel) at the end of the Arabic noun (kitabu-n, baitu-n, masjidu-n) is the Arabic indefinite article corresponding to the English "a/an".

In this part of lesson 1 we will learn the phrase ما هـٰذا which means "What is this". We shall then answer the questions with the phrase we learnt in the earlier lessons, i.e. Hadhaa
(هـٰذا) . We will also learn the phrase أهـٰذا which means "Is this...", for example أهـٰذا بَيْتٌ which means "Is this a house."
In addition, we will learn the words for Yes and No in Arabic to answer these questions.The word for Yes in Arabic is نَعَمْ and the word for No in Arabic isلاَ.

We have practised reading words and learning phrases and grammar. However, it is very important to learn how to write Arabic while you are learning the language. Please read the sentences below and write them down on a piece of paper. You have already learnt what the sentences below mean in the earlier part of the lesson so try to remember what they mean also.
In Arabic, more experienced readers do not require the vowels or diacritical marks to read the word. We have started lesson 1 showing all the vowels, for exampleبَيْتٌ(house) where we can see the fatha, sukun and damma. However, with experience, we know from a combination of the letters used and the context of the sentence what the word actually means. Below, the words will appear without vowels or diacritical marks (e.g. sukun, fatha, kasra etc).Hence, the word will be written in Arabic as بيت.
Please click on the words or pictures to hear speech, i.e. how the words should be pronounced.

Assalamu Alaykum !

I`m from Poland and Arabic unfortunately isn`t my native language, athough a year ago i attended Arabic classes and I think I did pretty well.
Arabic requires systematic practise, otherwise You forget most of the things you`ve learned. And so have happened to me.
I will use the materials You posted and try to recover it from my memory:)
thank You,

:jazaak: bro islamicfajr for all the help u been rendering since you found out i was keen to learn Arabic.I was hoping to able to speak with the right arabic sounding words but even with madinaharabic.com one still need to have real live people to converse with.Listening is only one way you need to used it too.Having live chat with Arabic speaking bros/sisters with the intention of learning the language would help one tremendously in speech and pronounciations.It also build up one confidence and one must be able to accept positive criticism if one want to improve.I guess i still have not been given the hidayah :SMILY23::SMILY23: when it comes to Arabic. For i find it sooo easy to learn most of the languages when i was working at the only international airport in Singapore,CHANGI,picking up a bit of everything more in my working line,,,like numerals,, asking about where they fm or where they going to send their items . like letters or parcels and so forth...i just used whatever i could master and at times the customers correct me too when I mispronounced, although i go red in the face,, its the only live lesson i could get eh ;)In Singapore,, we have four official language,,they are English used by majority of Singaporeans...Mandarin for the Chinese,,Malay for the Malays and Tamil for the Indians.
So now Im learning Arabic more by listening than having conversations...so its hard indeed to improve pronounciations/conversation wise.....thanks for listening to this old lady yakking away.I begged all for forgiveness if my bad English or words hurts any of you, for it was not my intentions.
Pls Bro Islamicfajr pls dont stop the good work u been doing ..:salah: :tti_sister: May Allah swt blessed you for your kind effort and contributions for both Arabic and Islamic knowledge articles and :inshallah: you be rewarded accordingly

Salamu alaikum

Assalamu alaykum

I am a Muslim revert, having taken my shahadah in my youth. I have lived/studied in the Middle East for seven years and have taught Arabic since returning to the west for about four years. I am fluent in both Arabic and English. I am looking for MALE students to teach online on skype in their own time and pace. I am a very patient teacher and currently teach in a well known U.K Masjid. I use the Madina books and will help you excel in Arabic, both reading,listening and speaking Allah willing. Only £8 an hour on skype. I am also willing to teach a group of brothers face to face no less than four and no more than eight at a discounted fee of £6.50 per person in any London location, please bare in mind that this fee includes my travel costs. Please message me here or e-mail me at excelinarabic@gmail.com. ONLY MALE STUDENTS PLEASE.
